Should Mbeki go now? No!
Am I the only one who wants to keep Mbeki as president for at least the next year? It seems as though many people are agreeing with the SACP and some of the ANC’s top leaders in calling for Mbeki to step down early.
Now as you know I am not a great supporter of Mbeki, in fact I think most agree that I dislike him intently, but to those people who support this move: have you so easily forgotten what will happen if he does this?
If Mbeki goes now, that means Zuma wuill get in. If Zuma gets in he will do everything in his power to manipulate the laws of this country so that he never stands trial for his alleged illegal activities.
Need I further remind you that this Zuma is a man who believes that taking a shower after unprotected sex with an HIV+ woman is sufficient to prevent him becoming infected. At least Mbeki and his cadre knows how HIV is transmitted - even though their treatment methods are … well … dodgy.
At present Zuma is in full campaign mode, trying to gain as much support as he can. He is promising anything that people want hear in the hopes that their support swings to his side. I have never and will never trust a politician who only tells the people what they want to hear.
If I had to make a choice between Mbeki and Zuma I would pick Mbeki every time because I think that this country under Zuma will just get far worse than it is now.
The only positive thing I potentially see in this mess is that the ANC splits up and their huge majority is broken.
However, better the devil you know ….
