Inge Lotz Murder: Carolus to be charged with obstruction

It has been reported that the police are going to charge Werner Carolus with obstructing and defeating the ends of justice. Apparently a docket was registered in Stellenbosch last week which paves the way for the charges.

During the trial Carolus had confessed to police that he had burgled Inge’s flat and that he witnessed his friends killing her.

Daryl Els and Christiaan Botha, the private investigators briefly hired by the Van der Vyver family had decided to investigate the matter further, with Els interviewing Carolus in prison where he got a confession and identification of the others allegedly involved.

Botha said that he had sent his findings to national Police Commissioner, Jackie Selebi’s office and also to the Independent Complaints Commission and that he hoped that they would investigate it further.

So now we have another standoff between the police and the former van der Vyver team. Who will ultimately prevail? Will we finally discover the truth?

I don’t have a lot of faith in the Selebi angle. Selebi is currently a tad too concerned with his own leal problems to bother about this case. Maybe we will see some result from the IDC.

JS: Did carolus say that he witnessed them do it, or was he only present at the flat when the others went in to steal things..

Can it not be that Carolus was an innocent bystander?

I don’t understand the police action in this matter. Why would Carolus lie about this?

They say he lied to get even with the people he accused. Basically using a situation to play to his advantage. He said that he was there when he saw his colleagues kill her.

The funny thing is that it appears that the PI’s still believe him, so his trial should prove interesting!

JS, it is not a question of who believes whom.

The question is: Could it be that his version of events is reasonably possibly true?

      There is a difference.

PI’s, unlike the police, have the potential to focus more extensive on a certain case thus they are simply exhausting every lead they have.
However I believe Carolus still has some value to the case: be it he witnessed something the night of the murder or he stands to gain something from lying. Remember the only real reason why anyone would lie and go to jail is for money. It has happened countless times before.

Zaraki why would he lie for money by implicating himself in a crime for which he may be incarcerated for life?

Ja Brain that are another thing to think about hey? Brain do you think the police are thinking about all the things that the PIs are thinking about? Or don’t they have the potential?

He never confessed to killing the poor soul so he wouldn’t go to jail for life!! If your 17 and you have no future you would happily go sit in jail for alot of money. Money corrupts even the most purest of souls.

Yes like Hansie, JZ and JS…

But what do think the jailterm is for being an accomplice to murder, zara?

What do you think the jail term is for being an accomplice to attempted robbery?

And who in the world would that seventeen year-old trust to keep the money for him until he saw the light of day again?

      Come on!
