Children’s Act and government lying to us

Here is a typical example of how the government lies to us in order to pass legislation that we would never agree to.

Do you remember back when the government was discussing the new Children’s Act? At the time they said that banning corporal punishment would not affect parents unless they abused the child. They said that they would not prosecute parents for smacking a naughty child as a means of discipline. Read the IOL article here about what they promised.

Today we read in the paper that actually even a minor smack on the bum or rap over the knuckles contravenes the Children’s Act and the parent will be fined a minimum of R300.

Please note that I said MINIMUM.

The NPA told the parliamentary Social Welfare Services portfolio committee that unless clause 139 of the Children’s Act was changed, they would be obliged to follow up each and every case that is brought to their attention.

“A decision on whether sufficient pain has been inflicted (for the complaint to qualify) does not lie with the NPA. The act will stipulate that each smack or clip is an offence and should be treated as such.” said Advocate Rodney de Kock, the Director of Public Prosecutions in the Western Cape

The new law stipulates that absolutely no form of corporal punishment is legal and a child may not be punished in a way that is “cruel, inhuman or degrading”.

Cheryllyn Dudley of the ACDP asked if it was not possible to refer in the legislation to “reasonable forms of corporal punishment” because a good hiding was an important parental tool.

The reply by committee chairperson Advocate Mike Masutha of the ANC was that the law had provisions for trianing in alternate forms of discipline.

This tactic by the government is very commonly used in the US and UK nowadays. They make promises to pass a law, and once it has passed they suddenly repeal their promises.

If you look at the wording of the law, you will see that if you even SAY something bad to a child, you are ‘degrading’ the child and could be subject to punishment. Many people will scoff and say that this will never happen. I say that it will happen and a whole lot sooner than you think.

Governments have realised that people are so brainwashed that they will believe anything they say, so to avoid a confrontation, they merely make a promise. Once the law has been passed and they have got their way, then suddenly they conveniently forget what they have said before.

This current government is undermining the very basic core of the family, as well as entrenched religious beliefs. If your religion tells you to ’spare the rod and spoil the child’ and you decided that your religion is more important than the government, then I am afraid that you will be a criminal!

Time an time again this has been happening. Look at the whole smoking issue. When the anti-smoking law first came up, they made all kinds of promises about your right to smoke in your own home. The new legislation that builds on the older one is now going to make it virtually impossible for you to smoke anywhere but in the countryside!

I wonder what other insidious ideas this government has been slowly pushing onto us. You should never believe what the government promises you - unless it is written down in black and white in the law itself. This is just common sense. You wouldn’t take the promises of a someone in business unless it was written in a contract.

Your lives are slowly being taken away from you by this ultra-left wing movement of today. These people stand on soapboxes and speak for those without a voice - whether those people want it or not. Look at their agendas in areas of animals, children, the environment etc. Who gives them the right to dictate to the rest of society how we should behave in those areas? And those ideas are forced on us by the government in the form of law.

I am not saying that all these issues are wrong. I am saying that they need to be approached with commonsense.

Just like the US and the UK we are handing over all of our freedoms and ideals into the hands of an irresponsible government. It is funny how in a land of ‘freedom’ that our personal freedoms are not so slowly being eroded away.

The basic principle of democracy is that the will of the majority becomes the law. Totalitarian states dictate how their citizens should act, feel and behave - above the will of the majority.

In our country the government dictates its will to us every day and we follow along like sheep - even though the majority of the people are against a certain thing. To me it looks as though we are heading down a slippery slope towards total government control.

They have even taken away your right to resist them by making it impossible to own guns. The virtual total lockdown on buying guns had very little to do with crime, as they have told you. Most of the gun crimes are committed by criminals with access to the old weapons caches that the current government set up in the apartheid era. You have never been allowed to buy AK47’s in South Africa, so where do they come from?

Your right to have a gun and defend yourself and your family was revoked because a disarmed foe is not a threat. That is what they have done, people. They have minimised the threat to themselves. There can never be an armed popular uprising because no-one has guns.

I am in no way advocating any kind of violent uprising, I am merely showing you the reason why the government did it. They lied to you that it was because of crime in order to get their own safety. Just take a look around - did crime reduce drastically in the last couple of years? Do you feel safer now that guns are no longer around?

We need to be aware of what the government has been doing, what they are still doing and what they will still do in the future. Do not trust them when they make promises. Ask for it in black and white in the law!
