Winnie annoys me again!

As I mentioned just a few weeks go, I have feeling that Winnie is up to something. Once again she is in the spotlight again by trashing Nelson, Tutu and others.

Mrs. Mandela - let us take a look at YOUR track record:

1) Convicted of the kidnap of Stompie Moeketsi
2) Encouraging people to ‘necklace’ others
3) Inciting people to violence

In addition I do not see any evidence that you have helped the poor, fought against corruption, stood up for abused children or promoted peace and harmony in our country.

Now let us look at Nelson’s track record:

1) Negotiated a peaceful transition of government
2) As president, he did the most to bring the people of South Africa together
3) Worked to bring peace in trouble-spots all over the world
4) Dedicated his retirement to children’s rights

I think that the facts are obvious!

Winnie Mandela should take the forest out of her own eye before taking the speck out of her former husband’s eye.

Is this a case of jealousy, or is there something more nefarious up her sleeve? I really abhor this woman!

Is it any wonder that the country is engulfed in crime when our own president continues to flout the laws of the country?

The Executive Members Ethics Act of 1998 clearly states that all cabinet members - including the president - must declare and disclose all their financial interests to parliament. Mbeki did so when he was in office. Zuma does not!

If you remember back to 2003, he was embroiled in exactly the same thing!

Then he was investigated for contravening Parliament’s code of ethics, for not disclosing gifts and benefits from several benefactors. And remember this included benefits and gifts from … that’s right Schabir Shaik!

He managed to dodge that one because he gave the ANC-dominated ethics committee a document which was supposed to be an interest bearing loan from Schabir. Later Judge Hilary Squires rejected the document in Schabir’s corruption trial.

Then before he could be sanctioned by parliament, he resigned as MP (after being fired as deputy president) which effectively halted the proceedings.

Now Zuma is claiming that the law is ‘ambiguous’ and is challenging it. Never mind that Mbeki has no problem with this law when he was president. The act also provides for the Executive Members’ Code of Ethics, which was promulgated in 2000 and which Zuma HIMSELF signed into law as acting president!

It has now been 10 months since his legal team began the legal steps, but has not yet finalised the legal opinion and he is still not declaring his finances.

This seems to be a common theme with Zuma (and others in the ANC). They feel that they are above the law and that it does not apply to them. It also shows how when a law is inconvenient for them, they merely take steps to change the law to favour their own interpretation - no matter how clear the law is to begin with!

When a president clearly flouts the law, what example does this set for the rest of the country? What would the rest of the world think of this?

What worries me is that Zuma and his cronies are starting along the same path as that followed by Mugabe and his cronies.

  • Multichoice, porn and stupid arguments

As you are all aware, the recent Multichoice annoncement that they were looking into the viability of adding a porn channel, has created quite the furore in South Africa. Many people have been adding their 2 cents worth to the argument, but some of these really piss me off!

“Porn violates women’s constitutional rights to dignity and equality,” Cape Town-based Christian Action Network co-ordinator, Taryn Hodgson, said

Clive Human, chairman of Standing Together to Oppose Pornography (Stop), which counsels sex addicts, said pornography infringed women’s right to dignity.

    Abolsute nonsense!

It’s these types of wishy-washy arguments which mean absolutely nothing.

Just because you don’t like it doesn’t automatically make it a violation of all women’s rights. How exactly are the dignity and rights of ALL women infringed? What about the rights of the men who take part in porn? Whose dignity and rights are violated in gay porn?

This nonsense is extremely counter-productive as most people see it for what it is - hot air from activists with nothing else to say.

On the other hand, there have been some very good and productive arguments from other people. These people cite studies which link the consumption of porn to sexual violence, rape, murder and child abuse. These arguments I will listen to as they point to solid research.

Personally I am against allowing porn TV. I feel that it erodes the moral and spiritual values of society as a whole. If people want porn, there is a wealth of it available on the net and in the sex shops which have sprung up all over.
